James Mathis is a veteran healthcare industry attorney with regulatory and compliance expertise. He joined Vanderbilt in 2013 as the Chief Clinical Enterprise Compliance Officer and in 2014 was appointed Chief Compliance Officer. He is charged with the oversight of the strategic development, implementation, daily operation, overall integrity and quality of the VUMC Compliance Program. Before attending law school, Jim taught high school Latin and has continued his engagement in education, serving as an Adjunct Online Professor teaching health law and health management to both graduate and undergraduate students, as well as working in course development and assisting traditional faculty in adapting course material to the online format. Jim has served both in-house and with leading law firms as litigation, lending, transactional, operations and regulatory counsel. He has been lead compliance officer for publicly traded companies in the dialysis and institutional pharmacy industry segments before switching to the non-profit environment at VUMC.
