Kris A. Zumalt Esq

Kris A. Zumalt, Esq., a mediator, arbitrator, and private hearing officer with JAMS Denver, has 20 years of trial and advocacy experience in Colorado state courts. Her law practice emphasized elder law and probate litigation, but also included contract disputes, large product liability cases, and tort claims. Kris worked as a litigation associate for Holland & Hart LLP and Glatstein & O’Brien LLP, co-founded Zumalt & Sigler LLC, and also had a solo elder law, probate litigation, and estate planning practice, Zumalt Law LLC. In addition, for nearly seven years she was a deputy district attorney for Colorado’s First Judicial District (Jefferson and Gilpin Counties), prosecuting numerous serious felony cases to verdict. Kris joined JAMS Denver in 2022 to provide alternative dispute resolution services full-time. She has mediated probate and elder law matters involving breach of fiduciary duty, undue influence, financial exploitation, will contests, contested fiduciary appointments, division of estates, trust distributions, and fee disputes. She also serves as a hearing officer for Title IX matters. Kris is past chair of the CBA’s Elder Law Section and serves on the Section’s Executive Council. She has made CLE presentations on numerous topics of interest to elder law and probate practitioners and also presented on such matters to senior citizens and their families through community outreach programs. Kris authored Chapter 27: Family Discussions, Decisions, and Dispute Resolution in the Senior Law Handbook (2024 ed.), and was a section editor for the Colorado Probate Bench Book.
