Joshua Tolini, Esq., graduated from the University of Colorado Law School in 1998. He interned with the Colorado Public Defender’s Office his last year of law school and was employed with the Colorado Springs Public Defender’s Office until 2001. Since leaving the Public Defender’s Office, he has been practicing primarily criminal defense with the Law Firm of Barker and Tolini. Joshua has maintained contract with Alternative Defense Counsel representing indigent clients when there is a conflict with the Public Defender’s Office. He generally carries 20-30 felony ADC cases, and has handled over 30 first degree murder cases, including more than a dozen trials. He has been designated first chair on death penalty cases at the state level, and he has headed teams with multiple attorneys, investigators, social workers and experts. Joshua been retained and testified as an expert in criminal defense, and he is currently the chapter head of the El Paso County Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. The majority of his private criminal cases involve allegations of narcotic distribution at the state and federal level. Joshua has significant experience regarding search and seizure litigation in general. He probably has more experience in litigating wiretaps and other forms of electronic surveillance than any other attorney in the Colorado Springs area. He has appeared in the Federal District Court of Colorado and the 10th Circuit, and he has litigated several civil rights lawsuits in Federal District Court, the last case being Brown vs. City of Colorado Springs 14-cv-01471-RPM. The Brown case involved three years of protracted litigation, including cross motions for summary judgment, oral arguments before Judge Matsch, appeals to the 10th Circuit, oral argument before the 10th Circuit, and several negotiation conferences before finally reaching a settlement.
