Deborah J. Grohs

4th Judicial District
Honorable Deborah J. Grohs is a District Court Judge for the 4th Judicial District in Colorado Springs. Judge Grohs presides over domestic and criminal cases.  She serves on the Colorado Supreme Court's Criminal Rules Committee and the 4th Judicial District's Domestic Relations Best Practices Committee.  Judge Grohs was recognized as “Advocate of the Year” in 2012 by the Colorado Springs chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and received the Cornelia Sabine Award in 2014 from the Psychological Society of the Pikes Peak Region for her work presiding over the 4th Judicial District's Mental Health Court.  Judge Grohs previously served on the Community Corrections Board for the 4th Judicial District, the advisory Board for the State office of Dispute Resolution and on the advisory board for the 4th Judicial District's Pre-trial Services program.  She is a volunteer judge for Teen Court and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.  Judge Grohs is a member of and a past president of the Ben S. Wendelken Inn of Court.   Judge Grohs was appointed to the bench in 2007.  Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Grohs was in private practice with a concentration in criminal defense.  She also served as a mediator on criminal cases for the Office of Dispute Resolution in Colorado Springs. Judge Grohs served as the office head for the Office of the State Public Defender covering Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln Counties and as a supervisor in the Colorado Springs Office.  Prior to moving to Colorado, Judge Grohs was a public defender in Chicago, Illinois.
