William R. Lucero
Office of Presiding Disciplinary Judge, Colorado Supreme CourtHonorable William Lucero received a B.A. in Education in 1969 from SCSC in Pueblo, Colorado, and a JD in 1972 from the University of Denver College of Law. He served in the Denver District Attorney's Office from 1972-90, the United States Attorney's Office from 1990-2001, where he supervised the Complex Prosecution Unit as well as the Appellate Unit. He returned to the Denver District Attorney's Office in 2001 as a Chief Trial Deputy in the Denver District Attorney from 2001-2004. In 2004, the Colorado Supreme Court appointed him Presiding Disciplinary Judge for the Colorado Supreme Court. The Presiding Disciplinary Judge hears cases involving alleged lawyer misconduct as provided in the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct, disability cases involving lawyers and judges, as well as injunctions and contempt matters referred from the Colorado Supreme Court. The Presiding Disciplinary Judge drafts opinions after presiding over a formal hearing. These opinions are published in Westlaw and Lexis. Judge Lucero has been a member of the Colorado Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Colorado. In 2002 he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is a past member of the Colorado Supreme Court Grievance Committee, Attorney Regulation Committee, Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, and the Federal Committee on Conduct, and the Colorado Supreme Court Delay Reduction Committee. He is admitted to practice in the State of Colorado and the Federal Courts of the District of Colorado and the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. He was awarded the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association's award for Outstanding Hispanic Lawyer of the Year in 1995. In 2007 he was awarded the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Colorado Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award.
