James Hearty is Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of DaVita Inc. in Denver. Jim joined DaVita in February 2012 as Vice President and Associate General Counsel. In September 2015 he became Chief Compliance Officer-Kidney Care. Prior to joining DaVita, Jim spent 14 years as a prosecutor and trial attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice. He joined DOJ through the Attorney General's Honors Program after earning his law degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He started in the Civil Division of DOJ in Washington and returned to his home state of Colorado four years later becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Colorado. Jim held several leadership positions at the U.S. Attorney's Office including Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. He was also one of the lead prosecutors in the prosecution and trial of former Quest CEO Joseph Nacchio that resulted in Mr. Nacchio's conviction for securities fraud. Jim serves on the Board of Urban Peak (a local non-profit that serves homeless youth) and was a Colorado Governors Fellow.
