Megan A. Ring

Office of the State Public Defenders Office
Megan Ring, Esq., was raised in New Jersey. She received her Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986. She worked on Wall Street for several years and was licensed as a CPA in New York. She took a hiatus and moved to San Diego where she became certified to teach group fitness classes, which she continues to teach today. The hiatus became a career change and she moved to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado School of Law, graduating in 1996. Having interned at the Golden Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, she accepted a permanent position as a deputy state public defender and was placed in the Boulder Regional Trial Office in December 1996. Megan represented clients in misdemeanor, juvenile and felony cases, including cases involving multiple homicides and other complex crimes. She also supervised interns, county court attorneys and juvenile attorneys. In September 2012, the Public Defender appointed her to be the head of the Boulder Office. The Public Defender Commission chose her to be the Colorado State Public Defender and, on August 1, 2018, she became the first woman to hold this position. Megan resides in Denver with her dog, Ella, and she has one daughter who will be attending law school in the Fall of 2021.
