Glenn H. Schlabs
Glenn Schlabs, Esq., started life as an “Air Force Brat,” born in Dallas, Texas. After being raised in seven states and Germany, he attended the Air Force Academy, graduating in 1969 as a Distinguished Graduate. Glenn’s life-long ambition to follow in his Dad’s footsteps as an Air Force Pilot began with pilot training at Williams AFB, Arizona, and he remained at “Willie” as an Instructor Pilot. Vision problems forced him to stop flying, and the Air Force selected him to attend the University of Texas School of Law in 1974. Glenn completed his Air Force career as a Judge Advocate in 1989, retiring from the Air Force and beginning his “second career” with the law firm of Sherman & Howard. While in the Air Force, Glenn developed a specialty in labor and employment law. He represented the Air Force across the United States in collective bargaining, labor arbitrations, Unfair Labor Practice trials, and adversarial hearings before Administrative Law Judges of the EEOC and Merit Systems Protection Board. He continued his specialization in labor law and civil litigation while practicing in Sherman & Howard, until his retirement in 2017. During that time, he was a member of the Colorado, Nevada, and Texas Bars, and appeared before the state and federal trial and appellate courts in those states and many others. During his time with Sherman & Howard, Glenn participated in many professional, civic, and educational activities. He served as President of the El Paso County Bar Association and was a founder of its charitable foundation. Also, he was a member of the 4th Judicial District Nominating Commission, which nominated candidates for District and County Court judicial vacancies to the Governor. Additionally, for 10 years Glenn was a member of the Colorado Board of Health, and he served both as Vice-President and President of that Board. Notwithstanding the demands of his civil practice and professional activities, Glenn was active in teaching the law. For example, he taught courses in trial advocacy and labor and employment law for the U.S. Department of Justice and the American Arbitration Association. He was also an instructor for the Institute for Applied Management and Law, teaching attorneys and Human Resource professionals courses covering discrimination and other wrongful discharge claims, as well as all aspects of traditional labor law, including collective bargaining, arbitrations, and unfair labor practices. Glenn received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the U.S. Air Force Academy as a Distinguished Graduate in 1969. In 1977 he received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law. He also earned an M.A. in Mathematical Economics from U.C.L.A. and an LL.M. in Labor Law from Cornell University, School of Law. After his retirement from Sherman & Howard, Glenn has stayed active in providing pro bono legal services and participating in his local Bar Association’s activities.
