Evan D. Ela, Esq., is a Partner in the law firm of Cockrel Ela Glesne Greher & Ruhland P.C., a firm specializing in water law and the representation of special districts. Until recently, Evan practiced water law and local government law in private practice with Collins Cockrel & Cole, PC for over 20 years, and as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Thornton for six years prior to that. Evan serves as special water counsel for numerous special districts and municipalities and as general counsel for several special districts in Colorado. Evan is a member of the State Affairs Committee of the Colorado Water Congress and the Colorado Special District Association. Currently involved as a Legislative Liaison for Colorado's Convention of States initiative, Evan has also been a board member of South Suburban Park Foundation, participated in the Stormwater Advisory Committee for the Highline Canal Conservancy, the Environmental Pool Advisory Group for Chatfield Reservoir, and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the Highline Canal Conservancy. He, with others, annually performs water law skits to teach school kids about Colorado water law. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Evan worked as a consulting water rights hydrologist, park ranger, surveyor, and orchard worker.
