Richard Martinez, MD, MH, is the Robert D. Miller Professor of Psychiatry and Law at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and is adjunct Professor at the University of Denver Sturm School of Law. He is Director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program at Univ. of Colorado Denver in collaboration with the Colorado Office of Behavioral Health. After medical school and psychiatry residency, he completed fellowships in bioethics and professional ethics at Harvard Medical School and the Edmond J. Safra Center for Professional Ethics at Harvard University. He has written on numerous topics in professional ethics, law and psychiatry, end of life care, and a recent book, written along with his two colleagues, Philip J. Candilis and Robert Weinstock, “Forensic Ethics and The Expert Witness.” He is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, on the editorial board of the Journal of the Am Academy of Psychiatry and Law, Councilor to the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a member of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry.
