Her practice focuses on advising start-up, emerging and large companies in identifying, protecting and commercializing their intellectual property in the U.S. and abroad. She has extensive experience in structuring and negotiating domestic and international business relationships involving technology, including licensing, development, sponsored research, technology and materials transfer, collaboration, strategic alliance, marketing, distribution, customer⁄supplier, joint ventures, acquisitions, divestitures and spin-offs. Celia is also experienced in all kinds of outsourcing transactions, including IT, manufacturing and business process outsourcing. Celia has clients in a broad scope of industries, including companies in the software, hardware, telecommunications, biotechnology, medical devices, nanotechnology, energy, and RFID industries. Celia has represented clients through successful deals with major industry players such as Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, Intel, Sony, Samsung, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, EDS, IBM, AT&T Broadband, EchoStar, AOL, Excite@Home, Boston Scientific Corporation, Monsanto, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Blue Cross Blue Shield, GE Medical Systems, GE Healthcare, Provider Health Net Services, Per-Se Technologies, MEDecisions, Accenture, Honeywell, Siemens, Lockheed Martin, Agilent, Corning, Ciena, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California, University of Texas, and University of Colorado. Celia has been in legal practice for 20 years, including working 8 years as in-house counsel at Texas Instruments (a Fortune 100 technology company operating worldwide). Celia Rankin is a lawyer with over twenty-five years of experience in technology transactions, including licensing (assertion licensing, in-licensing, out-licensing, cross-licensing, international licensing), strategic alliances/collaborations (research, development, commercialization), and counseling on intellectual property strategy and commercialization. Licensing experience spans a broad range of industries, including software, hardware, Internet, semiconductor, wireless, medical devices and biotechnology. Currently, Celia works at IPVALUE Management (an IP commercialization firm) as Vice President, Licensing, where she leads negotiation teams in assertion licensing on behalf of operating companies and non-practicing entities. Prior to IPVALUE, Celia was a Partner in the Intellectual Property Group at Faegre & Benson. In this role, Celia successfully handled complex high-value licensing deals in a broad scope of industries, including two multi-billion technology collaborations as lead outside counsel for BASF. Prior to Faegre & Benson, Celia was a Partner in the Technology Group at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison where she developed and managed the Colorado Technology Practice Group. Celia also has in-house counsel experience from her eight years at Texas Instruments (a Fortune 100 technology company) where she served as Senior Counsel. Celia holds a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Brandeis University and a Juris Doctorate degree from Harvard Law School.
