James B. B. Dean
James B. Dean received his B.A. from Kansas State University in 1962, and his J.D. from Harvard University in 1965. Subsequent to his graduation, Mr. Dean practiced with various firms before founding Dean, Dunn & Phillips LLC in 1981. Mr. Dean retired from the practice of law in 2010.
Prior to his retirement, his practice consisted of representing business organizations of all types, with an emphasis on cooperative organizations, acquisitions and mergers, and general commercial law. His professional affiliations included the American Bar Association (former member of the Forum Committee on Agri-Business and Rural Lawyers), the Colorado Bar Association (former member of the Ethics Advisory Committee and a member of the Agricultural Law Section Council), the Denver Bar Association, and the American Agricultural Law Association (a founder, past president, past director, and recipient of the Distinguished Service Award). He was chair of the Cooperative Statutory Revision Committee of the CBA Agricultural Law Section and a co- founder of the Agricultural Law Review. Mr. Dean was an observer and associate reporter to the Drafting Committee for the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws Uniform Limited Cooperative Association Act. He also chaired the Colorado drafting committee for the Act. Mr. Dean has been the author of numerous articles and a speaker on cooperative organizations and other legal topics.
