Claire B. Levy
Colorado Center on Law and PolicyState Representative Claire Levy, Esq., is serving her third term as the Colorado State Representative for House District 13. Rep. Levy was just appointed to be the Democratic House member of the Joint Budget Committee. She was formerly the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, and served on the Judiciary Committee for five sessions. Rep. Levy also serves on the Committee on Legislative Legal Services, the Legislative Counsel Committee and the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice Reform. She is a Commissioner on the National Uniform Laws Commission, and has served two years as a member of the Statutory Ethics Committee. During the 2008 session, Rep. Levy sponsored bills on energy efficiency, transportation planning, historic preservation, juvenile justice reform and reform of adverse possession law. She also worked on bills that allowed permanent mail ballot status, as well as the establishment of student loan repayment assistance programs for graduates entering public interest and non-profit professions. Rep. Levy began her legal career as a Colorado public defender in the Appellate Division. In 1986 she moved to Boulder and became a civil trial lawyer, then went to work as an Assistant County Attorney in the Jefferson County Attorney's office, specializing in land use and planning. From 1999 until taking office, Rep. Levy had a private law practice focusing on land use and municipal law. Rep. Levy has served on the Boulder County Parks and Open Space Advisory Committee, including three years as chair; the board of PLAN Boulder County, as co-chair for two years and vice-chair for one year; the Boulder County Housing Authority; and the city of Boulder Planning Board. She has volunteered in her daughters' classrooms, with the Boulder Arts Academy, the Boulder Ballet and on local issues campaigns.
