Philip A. Brimmer

Honorable Philip A. Brimmer attended Harvard College (A.B. 1981) and Yale Law School (J.D. 1985). After law school, he served as a law clerk for Judge Zita L. Weinshienk from 1985 to 1987. Upon completion of his clerkship, Judge Brimmer joined the Denver office of Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a litigator. He joined the Denver District Attorney’s Office in 1994. He was promoted to chief deputy district attorney in January 2001. He became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado in November 2001, eventually serving as the chief of the Major Crimes section and chief of the Special Prosecutions section. In May 2008, President George W. Bush nominated Judge Brimmer to fill the vacancy created when Judge Lewis T. Babcock took senior status. He was confirmed by the Senate and sworn in on October 14, 2008. He became the Chief Judge on March 4, 2019.
