KATHERINE R. DELGADO

The Honorable Katherine R. Delgado (ret.) served as a District Court Judge for 20 ½ years in the 17th Judicial District. She presided over hundreds of court and jury trials over her judicial career in Adams and Broomfield Counties. She spoke to jurors after every trial gaining invaluable insight into the deliberation process. In her most recent Judicial Performance evaluation, 100% of the lawyers surveyed recommended retention. The evaluation stated “Judge Delgado is a true asset to the District through her knowledge and application of the law, case management abilities, professional demeanor and communication skills”. She is regarded as a fair and compassionate judge who carefully considers the facts of the case and the applicable law. Having served in a Problem-Solving Court, Judge Delgado's communication, listening and motivational interviewing skills assisted and encouraged parties to resolve their disputes. In addition, Judge Delgado is fluent in Spanish, which has aided in her communication with the Hispanic community. Throughout her judicial career, Judge Delgado was dedicated to the continual improvement of the judicial system and served on multiple state and national committees outside of her regular duties. She is the recipient of numerous state and national awards recognizing her creative, collaborative, and innovative work in the field of family and juvenile law. Judge Delgado takes this same dedication and concern for the litigants and their counsel that she had on the bench as she now continues to assist them at JAMS as an arbitrator, mediator, and special master. Prior to her appointment, she practiced corporate law and was a Chief Deputy District Attorney in Boulder County.
