Womble Bond Dickinson LLPJames (Jim) R. Walker, J.D., LL.M., is one of Colorado’s leading trust and estate lawyers. He has been listed in the Best Lawyers in America Trust and Estate Law and Litigation – Trusts & Estates for more than 20 years. Jim was twice tapped for Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” for Trusts & Estates - Litigation. One of Jim’s most prominent client representations was in the Colorado Supreme Court. In Lagae v. Lackner, 996 P.2d 1281 (Colo. 2000), Jim defended a Colorado beneficiary as she defeated the seizure of her interest in a valuable Douglas County ranch. The Supreme Court’s holding was later codified in the Uniform Trust Code (§ 507). Jim has authored many Colorado Lawyer articles addressing trust and estate topics. His Colorado Lawyer article, Sitting Pretty in Probate, was published in 2019, and his most recent article, Creditors Attacking the Trust, was published in 2020. Since 2000, Jim has been a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He served as ACTEC’s Colorado State Chair and presented at numerous ACTEC national meetings. Jim is a Founding Chancellor of ACTEC’s Rocky Mountain Fellows Institute and was tapped for four presentations to the Institute’s 2024 inaugural class.
