Stephen A. Keen

Stephen A. Keen, Esq., is senior counsel in the Investment Management group of Perkins Coie LLP. He graduated from the University of Chicago School of Law and was admitted to practice in Colorado in 1984. His prior experience includes 14 years at Federated Investors, a mutual fund manager, where he was General Counsel from 1999 through 2004. Steve is a nationally recognized expert on the U.S. regulation of money market funds and the use of derivatives by registered investment companies. Since 2017, his practice has expanded to include commercial applications of distributed ledger technology. He is a regular contributor to the Investment Lawyer, with recent articles on the use of distributed ledgers by mutual fund transfer agents and the treatment of carbon emission allowances as financial assets under Article 8 of the UCC. Steve was a member of the Digital Asset Working Group that helped draft new Article 12 of the UCC and make conforming amendments to Article 7, 8 and 9.
