Michele M. Lawonn is the principal of Medical-Legal Advocates, LLC, in Denver. Her elder law firm utilizes a multi-faceted approach for aging adults and their caretakers to facilitate the maintenance of aging adults' quality of life through the appropriate use of legal planning, rehabilitation utilization, the exploration and assessment of safe housing options, assessment of medical management issues, medical and hospital advocacy, and end-of-life advocacy. Her legal practice concentrates in the areas of elder law, Medicare, probate, guardianships and conservatorships, estate planning, end-of-life planning, and wills and trusts. Ms. Lawonn obtained her J.D. from the University of Denver College of Law and was a member of the University of Denver Law Review. She received a B.S. (cum laude) in physical therapy from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine. Ms. Lawonn is a member of the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) Elder Law and Trust and Estate sections and the Denver Bar Association. She is the former Elder Law Section CBA Legislative Policy Committee liaison, and a past member of the Elder Law Section Executive Council. She was appointed by Congresswoman Diana DeGette as an alternate delegate to the 2005 White House Conference on Aging. Ms. Lawonn is licensed to practice law in Colorado and California, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, and the Tenth Circuit. She also is licensed to practice physical therapy in Colorado.
