Joan McWilliams, Esq., MSJA, conducts a full-time dispute resolution practice through her firm, The McWilliams Mediation Group Ltd. She has served as Chair of the Colorado and Denver Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Sections and was on the Colorado Bar Association Board of Governors. She is a member of the Executive Council of the CBA Family Law Section, a past president of the Metropolitan Denver Interdisciplinary Committee, and a co-initiator of Colorado Parental Responsibilities Bill. Joan is the author of Parenting Plans for Families After Divorce; Parenting Plans That Work; the dispute resolution chapters in Colorado Family Law; The Peace Finder: Riley McFee's Quest for World Peace; and a new book, Divorce. Conflict. Kids. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Outstanding Alumni Professional Award from the University of Denver College of Law and the Family Law Icon Award from the CBA Family Law Section. She initiated the amendment to the CO R.P.C. Rule 2.1, Comment 2 regarding parental conflict and children. She received the 2016 Richard N. Doyle CLE Award of Excellence.
