Thomas O. McBride
Colorado Division of Workers CompensationThomas O. McBride is a graduate of the University of Dayton and Cleveland Marshall College of Law. Tom was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1975 and to Colorado in 1982. Prior to becoming a lawyer, he 'tried' to teach Speech, Creative Writing and Literature to high school students but the toll was too high on everyone. He served as a hearing officer for the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation and was workers' compensation defense counsel with a Cleveland, Ohio law firm before moving to Colorado. Tom co-authored Colorado Workers' Compensation Law and Practice, (Colorado Legal Publishing Company, 1986 et seq.). He is past co-chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the Colorado Defense Lawyers Association. Tom argued the employer-respondent's position before the Colorado Supreme Court in Christie v. Coors Transportation Company, 933 P2d.1330 (Colo. 1997), which upheld Colorado's “any wages” standard in PTD cases. Tom joined the Colorado Division of Workers' Compensation in June of 2005 as a regulatory analyst and has managed to convince the Division's Director that he is “helping” the Division's Carrier Practices and Coverage Enforcement Units. When his grandchildren don't have swimming, soccer, basketball, football, a track meet, a concert or some theatrical performance (all of which have mandatory grandparent attendance policies), he likes to ride a motorcycle and, when flying an airplane, continues to remind his passengers that any landing from which he and they are able to walk away was “perfect”.
