A Bruce . Jones

Honorable A. Bruce Jones is a district court judge in Denver.  He was appointed by Gov. Bill Ritter and took the bench on January 10, 2011.  He currently presides over a criminal docket, after recently completing a 3-year rotation in civil in January 2023.  Judge Jones received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M in 1978, and his law degree, with honors, in 1981 from the University of Texas, where he also was an editor on the Law Review.  After clerking for a year for Judge Will Garwood on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, he joined the Denver office of Holland & Hart in 1982.  He became a partner in 1988, and remained with the firm until his judicial appointment.  His practice included both trials and appeals in a variety of areas, including constitutional law and civil rights, media law, commercial disputes, and personal injury.   He tried cases throughout the country, in both federal and state courts, and argued appeals in a number of federal circuit and state supreme courts.  For the past several years, he has taught advanced trial advocacy at CU Law.  Judge Jones was born in Lamar, Colorado and grew up in a small town in West Texas.
