Honorable Peter F. Michaelson came to Colorado from New York for the first time in 1970 at the age of thirteen while traveling across the country on a bus trip.  Drawn back to Colorado after earning a bachelors degree from Penn State, he enrolled at DU law school, graduating there in 1982.  Pete became a Deputy DA in Breckenridge, and in 1988 he was elected District Attorney, being then twice reelected to that position.  In 1997 Pete decided to try his hand at private practice and moved to Westcliffe. By 2003 public service called again, and he was appointed by Governor Owens to be the County Court Judge for Custer County where there is just not enough mayhem to ever make that position full time.  After marrying his lovely wife Kathy in 2008,  Pete realized that his long held goal of becoming a District Court Judge lay here in the Eighteenth Judicial District where there is plenty of mayhem to keep everybody very busy.  He was appointed to that position by Governor Hickenlooper in 2015, beginning his first term January 1, 2016.  He was most recently assigned to sit on the Arapahoe County domestic relations docket in April 2017.
