Program Description:
Topics include:
- The process of pursuing a claim, obtaining a judgment, and the enforcement or collection of the judgment on behalf of a client against an adverse party, or when the attorney is proceeding against a former client;
- Essential legal and ethical considerations regarding the fee agreement between a lawyer and a client including hourly engagements and contingent fee engagements;
- How to obtain a judgment in a pending action, as well as in an independent action;
- Factors as to whether the action should be pursued in the County Court or the District Court; and,
- Issues concerning post-judgment execution including but not limited to obtaining and recording a transcript of judgment, discovery regarding a debtor's assets, pre-judgment attachments, garnishments, foreclosures of judgment liens and spurious liens.

James B. Lapin

Attorney Jim Lapin divides his practice between Colorado family law and civil litigation. A significant portion of his practice is collections law and he represents a number of law firms. He has testified as an expert regarding attorneys' fees litigation as well as in legal malpractice actions on behalf of Plaintiffs and Defendants.
Mr. Lapin was admitted to practice in Colorado and the U.S. District Court, District of Colorado in 1972. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver in 1972 and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado in 1969.
Mr. Lapin was ranked as Colorado Super Lawyers in 2008, 2009, 2010. He was also a 5280 Top Colorado Lawyers for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010.
Gregory G. Sapakoff

Gregory G. Sapakoff is an attorney with Podoll & Podoll, P.C., in Greenwood Village, Colorado. His practice focuses on counseling with respect to legal ethics, representing lawyers in attorney discipline matters and civil matters arising out of the practice of law, and general civil litigation. Before returning to private practice in April 2005, he spent over 10 years as Assistant Regulation Counsel with the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. He is a member of the CBA Ethics Committee, the Committee on Conduct for the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, and the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers. Mr. Sapakoff is a frequent speaker on issues relating to legal ethics.
